Michael Wilson Photographer Talk

Michael Wilson will be at Ivy Tech Community College in Sellersburg, Indiana on the night of November 5, 2019. He will be showing work and sharing experiences from more than forty years of photographing people. Along with examples of Wilson’s personal and commissioned portraits, the talk will also include work from the history of photography that sparked his initial interest and continues to sustain his interest in the photographic portrait. Q & A with the audience will follow the presentation.This free event will be held at Ogle Hall in the Horseshoe Auditorium. Ogle Hall is the second building behind the main entrance. Go to the back parking lot and enter through door eight. The auditorium is located on the right.

Artist bio:

Michael Wilson was born in 1959 and is a lifelong resident of Cincinnati, residing in Price Hill. He developed an interest in photography while attending Northern Kentucky University, where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1981, and has been working as a freelance photographer since 1987. Wilson’s photographs for the music industry are the most recognizable face of his work; he has made iconic portraits of Lyle Lovett, B.B. King, Waylon Jennings, Randy Newman, Emmylou Harris, Bill Frisell, David Byrne, Philip Glass, Dawn Upshaw, Robert Plant, Jason Isbell, Aaron Neville, The Replacements, Dr. John, and Doc Watson. His photographs have graced the covers of scores of records, books, and magazines, including works published by Nonesuch Records, Warner Bros. Records, Sony Music, Capitol Records, Alfred A. Knopf, Penguin Putnam, Mother Jones Magazine, Uncut Magazine, and Pentagram Design.

Wilson has also patiently recorded the changing face of his hometown—its streets, buildings, and inhabitants—usually in black and white, on film. His work has been featured in exhibitions at the Cincinnati Art Museum, the Contemporary Arts Center, the Weston Gallery, and in numerous exhibitions at other local venues. Wilson’s photographs have also been exhibited regionally at both the J.B. Speed Museum and 930 Gallery in Louisville, and at the Cleveland Center for Contemporary Art, and abroad in Japan and the Ukraine. His work is represented in the Cincinnati corporate collections of E.W. Scripps, PNC Bank, Frost & Jacobs, Deloitte & Touche, and Duke Energy. He is also represented in the collections of the Cincinnati Art Museum and the J.B. Speed Museum.
